About Us
Who are we?
The English Drama Group Salzburg is an amateur theatre group based in Salzburg. Established in 1967, we are once again part of the curriculum of the English Department of the University of Salzburg. As such, our workshop is a course at the university for university students but applicants from outside the university, with a good grasp of English and who are reliable, are also welcome.
What do we do?
We bring quality English theatre to the stage of course!
Our drama cycle starts at the beginning of the winter semester in October and ends in June at the end of the following summer semester. Roughly the cycle can be divided into two parts.
The first part is from October until December where we meet once a week (usually Tuesday evenings) for our workshops in Room 4.201, Unipark Nonntal (top floor). In the workshops we learn drama techniques and all that is needed for a great quality performance. The highlight of the workshops is the End-of-Term Performance – all members of the workshop take part in it and perform for an audience together for the first time.
The second and exciting part of the English Drama Group cycle begins at the end of January with rehearsals for the big production. Every year towards the end of May/beginning of June we perform a play (usually 5-7 performances) in the ArgeKultur Salzburg. The rehearsals are held a few times a week (depending on factors such as how large the role is, how many people are involved in it, how close we are to the performance).
Why should you join us?
We are people from all walks of life: some of us work, some study, others do something else entirely. What unites us is a passion for drama and theatre and love of the English language. If you have both and are willing to put in the time and effort to put on a production with us, come and join us!
Who are we looking for?
People from all walks of life with a passion for theatre, a solid command of English and a sense of commitment.
